In his first year of medical school, one of our doctors was prescribed Amoxicillin to treat a minor illness and charged a Co-Pay of $15 at the pharmacy. During the 90 minutes he waited he had read their brochure about a low cost member program where most generic drugs were listed at $10. Amoxicillin was included in the list.
He asked why am I paying more if I am using my insurance? The pharm tech looked at him and shrugged, before offering to cancel the purchase and refill at the cash price of $10. It would take another 20 or 30 minutes to reprocess.
